Online Author Visits To Continue When Schools Reopen
When UK primary schools closed in March 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many of my planned author visits had to be postponed.
At first, I really missed delivering my interactive storytelling sessions, but I soon learned an important lesson from the COVID-19 lockdown. I developed new skills and discovered that distance – social or geographical – is no object when it comes to an author visit!
In early April, I started offering virtual author visits to primary schools that were remaining open to support the children of critical key workers. I’ve really enjoyed delivering these interactive storytelling sessions live online.
My virtual author visits are presented via Zoom to individual schools in the style of an assembly. Each fun and engaging session is suitable for EYFS children, right through to Year 6.
At the time of writing, primary schools in England are preparing to reopen, potentially starting with a phased return for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children from June 2020. This means I will soon be able to share stories with even more children, as I continue to offer and deliver my virtual author visits.
Each online session starts with the inspiring story of my journey to becoming a children’s author, followed by a live reading of my first book, Fred The Fire-Sneezing Dragon. This best-selling rhyming story features actions for everyone to learn and join in with, so that they can ‘sneeze-along’ with Fred.
During each virtual author visit, the children have the opportunity to take part in a live ‘Author Q&A’. Following the session, all schools receive a FREE signed copy of Fred The Fire-Sneezing Dragon, with additional signed copies available to order (£8 each plus P&P).
