Author Writes Musical Theatre Show Based On Children’s Book

Drum roll please! It’s time for the big reveal regarding the top secret writing project that I have been working on for the past few months…

I’m excited to share that I’ve now completed the draft script for my first ever children’s musical theatre show!

‘Fred – The Musical’ is based on my best-selling rhyming picturebook Fred The Fire Sneezing Dragon. My script – complete with song lyrics – is currently with professional composer of children’s music Andrea Lamballe, who is writing the songs and musical score for the show.

Andrea, my talented ‘partner in rhyme’, is a graduate of The Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied piano and musical composition. She has travelled the world teaching, composing and performing music. As well as working as a composer for major advertising agencies, Andrea has written over 50 original songs for children.

I’m also thrilled to announce that I’m being mentored by children’s musical theatre producers, Sarah Birch and Cat Kingston (pictured with me and Fred) from Colour The Clouds Theatre Company. Associate Artists at The Lowry in Salford, they have kindly agreed to help me create a fun, singalong show for children aged seven and under. 

Next step for me is some production research, followed by further script development. Then it’s on to the rehearsal studio with a cast of actors, to develop a test performance for our target audience. I cannot wait!!!
