Author & Storyteller Fay Evans Completes Primary School Tour In Cumbria

It’s a wrap! Three days… six schools… hundreds of children and a whole tonne of storytelling joy!

In June I completed another short tour of primary schools in Cumbria. I was invited to take part in a week-long celebration of books and reading in local schools as part of the 2022 Literacy Festival organised by the Carlisle Schools Partnership.

Twelve primary schools within the Carlisle area took part in a week full of activities including online workshops and visits from children’s authors and theatre groups. The aim of the Literacy Festival was to provide primary school children with an exciting range of experiences to foster and promote enjoyment in reading.

It was great to be back in Cumbria, after my first county-wide author tour way back in 2019. Once again I enjoyed sharing my rhyming picture books Fred The Fire-Sneezing Dragon and Bob’s Beard in primary school assemblies and storytelling sessions.

My interactive author visits ensured everyone had fun performing actions, meeting cuddly characters and using special props to help bring the stories to life

I visited two schools in the Carlisle area each day, starting with the Reception and Year 1 children at Kingmoor Infant School, followed by an afternoon author visit to Belle Vue Primary School.

Day two kicked off with the Reception children at Stanwix School before spending the afternoon with EYFS and Year 1 at Robert Ferguson Primary in Carlisle.

On my final day in Carlisle I received a warm welcome at Newlaithes Nursery and Infant School and rounded off my tour at St Bede’s RC Primary School. And relax!

Primary school tours like this with multiple author visits and interactive storytelling sessions are full on fun! Whether you’re a single school or part of a local consortium, please contact me to find out more.
